Wales have added London Wasps and British & Irish Lions back row forward Andy Powell to the squad preparing to face reigning World Champions South Africa in the second leg of the Invesco Perpetual Series ’10 at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).
The 14-times capped former Cardiff Blues stalwart last appeared for Wales in the dramatic 31-24 home RBS 6 Nations victory over Scotland in February this year, when wing wizard Shane Williams sealed victory with the final play of the match in an injury time grandstand finish.
Although Powell was named as part of the squad to travel to New Zealand on tour this summer, as well as face the Springboks at home before departure, he eventually missed out through injury.
The flanker, who made his international debut against the Springboks at No 8 and also started there in the victory over Australia two weeks later winning his third cap in November 2008, has been training with the Wales squad to cover injuries in the back row – but has now been handed an official call-up.
