Moseley has pleasure in announcing the appointment of former Irish International centre Kevin Maggs as head coach.
A spokesman for Moseley said: “Nearly fifty applications for the Head Coach position were received, many of them from high quality coaches with experience at the highest levels of the game in a number of different countries. Among them, Kevin Maggs submitted a compelling presentation about his plans for the future and how he would take the club forward.
Kevin’s experience in working as Moseley Assistant Coach last season and having the confidence of the players was also a factor in the deliberations. The club’s recruitment subcommittee determined that there was no one with that much better potential who would justify destruction of the principle of promotion from within the club wherever possible.
It was therefore unanimous in recommending to the club’s Board the appointment of Kevin as Head Coach. The sub committee did look at combining the abilities of different outstanding applicants although ultimately considered that their different aspirations would not best meet the club’s objectives.
Moseley would like to thank all those who submitted applications and for their interest in being part of the revival of our great club”
Kevin Maggs said
“I am delighted to have been provided with this opportunity at this famous club which needs to be back at the forefront of the game in this country. Hopefully I can assist towards that goal and continue the progress made by successive coaches over recent years. I’m particularly pleased to have been given the vote of confidence by the management and directors of the club with whom I have enjoyed an excellent relationship over the last past nine months or so.
Following recruitment last season we have a nucleus of good players now and with a couple of prudent additions, we are hopeful of moulding them into a competitive force in the Championship and realising their potential. Certainly the improvements in results since last Christmas and the four game league winning streak at the end of the season and the foundations which Ian Smith and I laid down give some confidence towards meeting that objective”.
The 70 capped former Irish International joined Moseley as backs coach for the 2010-11 RFU Championship season assisting Head Coach Ian Smith. Following his impressive International career, the 70 cap international Kevin started his coaching while a player/coach at Rotherham in the 2009/10 season.
He took on the responsibility of developing the back line at Moseley during the early part of last season following the appointment of Don Caskie as national coach to Georgia in preparation for the Rugby World Cup.
