England v Australia
This weekend just gone was a clear sign of just what English rugby is capable of! They thrashed the wallabies, a clear 35-18 victory. There were many highs but also a few lows. Chris Ashton looks to be stooping to the heights of legendary English winger Jason Robinson, whilst the centers, in my view need a new bright face! Tindall and Hape work well but I would like to see the likes of Dom Waldouck or Shane Geraghty in the team. Dom offers pace, power and a great defensive and offensive off loader. Shane offers another kicking option and a mind that can open up a defense! The downs of the English performance could be that the scrum was not as powerful as first hoped. The Aussie scrum is a shambles at the moment and England could and should have taken full advantage, they did not.
Player of the month
Soane Tonga’uiha was named the player of the month this month. The Northampton Saints prop has tore premiership packs to shreds. His immense power and superior scrummaging has provided the Saints with a lethal weapon that cannot be controlled. His amazing try scoring record equals that with many of the wingers in the league!
Here’s Tonga’uiha at his best
Metal Blades
At many local games this year referees have questioned and scrutinized players with metal blades. Yet all the professionals wear them. So what is the rule? Are players at junior and senior level allowed metal or hybrid blades?
Joke of the week!
“At the last wallabies training session the coach asked the players to get into their usual positions, so the players stood behind the posts and awaited the conversion!”
