Thomas Ramos‘s sensational try stunned Twickenham inside two minutes as the France full-back opened the scoring in style against England.

The No 15 started a free-flowing move with a nice pass out to flanker and former captain Charles Ollivon who carried hard into contact before offloading the ball to the onrushing lock Thibaud Flament.

Flament’s pace only took him so far before he passed to the speedster on his left, wing Ethan Dumortier, and the Lyon flyer charged towards the England line before putting away his back-three colleague Ramos to score a superb try in the left-hand corner.

Toulouse’s Ramos added the extras with a lovely strike off the tee from the touchline to give Fabien Galthié’s side the perfect start as they went in search of a first win at Twickenham in the Six Nations for 18 years.

Les Bleus dominated the opening exchanges at a gloomy Twickenham and Ramos added a penalty to his solo points tally to give the visitors a 10-0 lead.

Ramos’s ability to stand in as a second playmaker paid early dividends for France, his experience at fly-half – having started there for Toulouse in big finals – is a big plus point for France, especially given Matthieu Jalibert’s ankle injury deprived Galthié of a fly-half replacement on the bench.

Jalibert was pictured being helped from the field in the week during training and is expected to be out for around a month.

It was not the start England skipper Ellis Genge would have envisaged for his captaincy debut.

The rain started lashing down at Twickenham as England attempted to force their way back into the contest.

Flament’s carrying force earned France a second try as he crashed past Lewis Ludlam before Ramos added a simple conversion from in front of the posts which took his personal tally to 12 points in exactly 27 minutes.
