Steve Borthwick’s team are in big need of a win in their final game of 2024
Steve Borthwick’s team are on a run of five consecutive defeats, so there’s a lot riding on the final England Autumn International of 2024. The head coach has subsequently named a full-strength side for the visit of Japan, managed by England’s former boss, Eddie Jones.
Borthwick has made two changes to the starting XV that lost to South Africa last week, with George Furbank coming in for Freddie Steward at full-back, and Tom Curry – who has passed HIA protocols after being knocked unconscious against Australia – replacing Chandler Cunningham-South in the back row.
On the bench, Sale Sharks’ Asher Opoku-Fordjour is in line to win his first cap at prop, while Fin Smith gets the nod over George Ford as replacement fly-half.
“We anticipate a tough challenge from a team that thrives on playing fast and with tempo,” said Borthwick. “Japan are a dangerous team so it’s important that we execute our game plan and maintain focus throughout the full 80 minutes.”
England v Japan kicks off at 4.10pm on Sunday 24 November.
