A video looking at Robbie Henshaw's rise from schoolboy rugby to the Ireland team
ROBBIE HENSHAW is the rising star of the Ireland team. The 21-year-old first made his name as a full-back in Connacht colours and has since switched to centre, forming a new midfield partnership for Ireland with Jared Payne.
He made his Test debut agains the USA in Houston in 2013 while several senior backs were in Australia with the British & Irish Lions and has been praised by Brian O’Driscoll for his abilities at centre. In November he started in the wins over South Africa and Australia, and has kept his place going into this year’s RBS 6 Nations.
It may be early in his career, but Henshaw has impressed with his hard running, kicking game and vision, and is set for a long future in the Ireland team.
In this video, Henshaw and his family talk through his journey from his early days in schoolboy rugby, his progression to the Connacht team and being selected by Ireland.
“The film crew got really up close and personal for the film – I tried to share a good insight into what it takes to be a professional rugby player as well as showing a little bit of me off the pitch too!” said Henshaw. “It was great to have my family feature in the film too – after all, they have played a huge role in developing me, and my career, to date. Grandad pulled out the accordian and we’d a good ol’ session too!”
This video is part of Three’s #AllitTakes campaign and further episodes will follow featuring Johnny Sexton and Paul O’Connell.
