Scotland took a five-point lead into the break against giantkillers Japan, but it could have been more had the Brave Blossoms’ Ayumu Goromaru not made this try-saving tackle on the half-time whistle.

The Scots were burrowing away within the Japanese five-metre line for 12 phases, but in the 13th they decided to spread the ball out wide to Tommy Seymour.

The Glasgow wing looked certain to dot down in the corner, but Goromaru sprinted across and bundled the 27-year-old into touch.

Goromaru’s tackle was very reminiscent of another by a Japanese player on a Scotland player 24 years ago.

In the 1991 World Cup, centre Scott Hastings looked to be heading over the whitewash when 11st defender Elji Kutsuki performed the patented shoulder barge and flung the Scot over the touchline.
