Mathew Turner’s hat trick of tries helped England brush past Uganda 55-0 in their second game at the Commonwealth Games Sevens in Delhi.
The former Bristol wing’s finishing power booked England’s passage into the quarter finals with the identity of their opponents determined by the result of today’s final Pool D clash with Australia. England, who earlier beat Sri Lanka 59-7, were quick and direct against Uganda with Dan Norton (Bristol) and Simon Hunt (Birmingham Solihull) both touching down twice and Tom Powell and Greg Barden once.
Captain Ben Gollings kicked three conversions and Hunt two. The eventual Pool D winners will go on to meet Samoa or Kenya in tomorrow’s quarter finals.
Wales beat Tonga 38-7 with two tries for Richie Pugh and take on South Africa in the Pool B decider.
Scotland suffered a scare, scraping through 19-17 against Canada, who missed a kickable conversion at the death.
Lee Jones and Andrew Turnbull touched down for the Scots, who face favourites New Zealand in their final pool match.
