Date of birth: 9 October 1996. Country: Scotland.
When did you first play rugby?
Towards the end of primary school, at George Watsons. It was the main sport and I didn’t enjoy it much at first but I played it to keep up with my friends. I enjoyed it more at high school.
Which clubs have you played for?
I played for Watsonians last season and Currie this season (2015-16).
You were a good athlete too?
I was all right. The 400m was my best event. I was national age-group champion. It was a difficult decision to give it up; I feel I could have done pretty well but I could see more of a career for myself in rugby.
Who has helped you the most?
Ally Donaldson, my school first XV coach and coach of Scotland U18. I think he saw my potential.
When did you join Edinburgh?
I got into the academy when I left school so this is the end of my second year. I have had two difficult years because I have picked up a lot of injuries.
You went on the John MacPhail Scholarship trip to New Zealand last year. Was it good?
It was amazing. It brought me on loads. Robbie Fruern, the Crusaders player, was my mentor and he was good.
What are your aims now?
I am optimistic about the U20 World Championship. We’ve got England, Italy and Australia in our group and if we play like we can, we can match anyone. Then I will be trying to put an injury-free season together and make the transition to senior rugby.
RW Verdict: A product of the schools system who has played for four Scotland age grades, Robbins needs to stay fit to fulfil his clear potential. He scored two tries in the U20 Six Nations and should add more at the World Champs.
