Six of the weekend’s eight matches finished with a winning margin of five points or less to highlight the competitiveness of National One.
A last- gasp try from Redruth’s Lewis Vinnicombe summed up a captivating day of rugby, and also ended Barking’s 100% start to the season as the sides
finished level on 20 points apiece. Redruth could be in for another thriller this Saturday when they take on Otley. The two sides were virtually inseparable last
season with the Cornishmen winning by a single point at home and going down by just two away.
Charlie Hayter scored with the last play of the game to snatch victory for Stourbridge in a 33-31 win at Blackheath, while a dramatic late drop goal by Lee
Cholewa saw London Scottish prevail 34-33 at home to Tynedale. In the day’s other nail- biting games, a Joe Burton brace of tries for Rosslyn Park helped
see off Otley 17-15, and Cinderford held on to win19-17 at Wharfedale who had the consolation of their first bonus point of the season.
The most comprehensive victory of the day was surprisingly at the Butts Park Arena where Macclesfield ended Coventry’s 100% home record in emphatic
fashion by winning 40-12. And an eight- try display from Launceston saw them register a 46-24 victory at home to Sedgley Park.
Leaders Barking now entertain Coventry, while at the other end of the table Launceston will wipe out their negative league points total if they pick up
maximum points at Cinderford.
