Matt Giteau was left out of Australia’s World Cup squad and immediately retired from international rugby aged just 29 and with an incredible 92 caps and 684 Test points to his name.
“Thank u ballboys, thank u linesman! That’s it”, Giteau tweeted followed by, “Really want to thank everyone for the support! Was a huge honour to get the chance to represent my country as often as I did.”
Former Wallaby Andrew Slack was stunned saying: “I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be picked. It’s got me flabbergasted. If they don’t get on, one of them needs to grow up. If that is the issue, then that’s a real shame because at the end of the day, the only people who end up paying for that is everyone else.
“Talent, experience, class, versatility and healthy – they are five compelling factors to select Giteau I would have thought.”
Giteau is now expected to head straight to his new club, Toulon.
