Wales have called Ospreys and British & Irish Lions prop Adam Jones into their 2011 RBS 6 Nations squad ahead of the Round 5 clash with France in Paris on Saturday.
Jones is a direct replacement for his regional team-mate Craig Mitchell who withdrew during Wales’ 19-13 home win over Ireland last Saturday with a dislocated shoulder.
“Craig has now had corrective surgery after dislocating his right shoulder,” said Wales national performance medical manager Prav Mathema.
“The operation went very well and we would now expect him to be back playing within a 12 – 16 week period.”
Jones returned to front row action for his region two weekends ago against Glasgow Warriors after a seven week lay-off of his own with an elbow injury and will join up with his national team-mates at the WRU national centre of excellence at the Vale Resort, Hensol, tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
Meanwhile, Scarlets wing George North, who trained with the squad last week to boost numbers, has also now been confirmed as an official squad member and is in contention for selection ahead of the trip to France.
Wales head coach Warren Gatland will name the side who will travel to Stade de France in second place in the championship table, and hoping for an Irish victory over England next Saturday to keep their own title hopes alive, at team headquarters on Wednesday.
