Learn how to take a tackle correctly

TACKLING IS a skill every mini rugby player is eager to learn, but it is just as important to learn how to take a tackle. Fall the wrong way or be tempted to put your hand out to break your fall and you could hurt yourself. So it is best to practise a standing parachute fall to learn how to ensure a safe landing.

This video shows you the key steps and once you’ve mastered the standing fall move onto walking and running, then add a tackler into the equation so you can both learn the correct technique in a tackle situation.

Every month Rugby World magazine publishes a step-by-step guide on a specific piece of play as well as training games to help develop mini rugby players skills, all provided by mini rugby coach Nigel Botherway.

Plus, you can find videos demonstrating different skills so you can watch mini rugby players perform the correct technique and then practise yourself. Why not check out our switch pass and two-on-one videos to help improve your game.
