Nigel Owens doesn't mess around when he's refereeing and this video shows why he's one of the most respected officials in the game
Few people want to get on the wrong side of Georgia captain Mamuka Gorgodze on the rugby pitch, but referee Nigel Owens showed he isn’t afraid of the big man.
The Welsh referee took control of the game between Tonga and Georgia on Saturday lunchtime and got a bit fed up of the lack of discipline from Gorgodze’s men.
Governing body World Rugby has released footage of Owens’s conversations with the Georgians, including one with prop Davit Zirakashvili, who claimed not to understand the Welshman.
“How many times have I refereed you and you don’t understand me still? I’ll shout louder then,” Owens quipped with an apologetic Zirakashvili.
Later, in the second half, Owens pulled Gorgodze to one side to have a word about the number of penalties the Georgians were giving away.

“I’m not going to start the clock until you’ve had a word about discipline,” he told Gorgodze. “When you’re ready let me know and I’ll start the clock.”
The dressing down had the desired effect, as Gorgodze went and talked to his team, warning them of the threat of a yellow card. Although Merab Kvirikashvili still managed to get himself binned for the final seven minutes of the match.
