Butch James’ Super 15 season at the Golden Lions could be ended by a ban after he was cited for a high tackle in Saturday’s 30-30 draw with the Sharks.
Since James’ move back to South Africa from Bath he hasn’t been able to transform the Lions’ hopes as they lie 14th in the table, out of contention for the play offs in the Super 15 having won just three games all season. But the outside-half will now appear before a SANZAR judicial hearing on Monday after being cited for alleged foul play during his team’s draw, their last of the campaign, where he scored 15 of their points.

James is accused of a dangerous tackle on Sharks flank Keegan Daniel during their clash at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday. He received a yellow card but the Citing Officers obviously believes that wasn’t sufficient punishment for the high tackle.
He will appear in Johannesburg at a hearing chaired by SANZAR Judicial Officer Rob Stelzner.
